I understand Michael Jackson's CDs have been flying off the shelves and the various download charts are full of his back catelogue.
Now I'm not knocking the guy, he was a talented musician, but surely if you were a fan you'd already own whatever Jackson tracks you wanted already so why are people buying the stuff now?
Its like if say Lemmy or Ozzy died, I have already got everything of theirs that I want.
Don't get it.

Pro If there's a bandwagon, they'll jump on it. A lot of the sales are probably from younger people who maybe aren't quite as familar with him.

I imagine they must buy them to collect dust as momentos, because you can download all that stuff free or at most for a couple of cents per track on Legalsounds.
Like you I didn't rush out when Rory Gallagher, Bon Scott or John Bonham, I already had the stuff.
Sentimentality... Like wanting to keep the jumper of a favourite aunt or something, only he's a stranger really so you go out and buy a memento.

But then, I bought it in the morning, and the news of his death didn't hit the media until that afternoon...

I don't own a Michael Jackson CD, but I like his music and could think of buying a CD of his as a token of respect.
