Fingerprinting

by Shipscook @ 2008-03-29 - 00:27:28

I read with great joy that BAA's plans to fingerprint passengers on domestic flights and airport transfers have had to be chucked out as they may contravene the data Protection Act.

Bloody good job too, BAA argued that it prevented terrorists switching their identity with people on domestic flights once through security. Now then you have to present a passport or photo ID to get on any flight so how is fingerprinting going to make a difference?

All it would do is hold people up even longer while travelling, as something else gets checked and some security goon gets a hard on by putting people to even more inconvenience.

I've got to say I agree with you there. Imagine a combination of the fingerprinting and the inept baggage handling.

I was so relieved to hear this.

It appears that everyone is branded a criminal these days unless of course you have committed an offence in which case you are treated with the utmost leniency.

And let's be honest - fingerprinting smacks of criminality whichever way you cut it.

It should never have been allowed in the first place surely their solicitors would have told them they cannot legally justify fingerprinting anyone !!

They could try "footprinting" whilst everyone is hopping about removing shoes at the second bank of x-ray machines!!! Oh and face-painting too to make real clowns of us whilst there at it!

Only joking - don't let BAA hear

alot of people dont realise that once a flight has left there is no compuyter record kept of who has left the country...they would have to try to find the peper record...we tried to establish if a young girl had been taken out of the country for a forced marraige..no one could tell us if she had left unless we had the exact flight she was booked on...and even then they could not confirm if the pearson that left was her....homeland security ...joke....The next 9/11 is coming!!

Good point Jack

So if no record is kept of passengers passing through the airport after the flight leaves just what is the point of all this checking IDs and potentially fingerprinting other than a piece of security window dressing.

I agree. You're so damn right! It always seems to me that the innocent ones are under harrassment while the real culprits slip past.
