Diana Sorry I don't get it

by Shipscook @ 2007-08-31 - 15:08:32

I can't get my head round this Diana business.

Why is the media always banging on about her. I know its ten years since her death and its all very sad for the family etc, but what is it to us? She never did much aside from a bit of charity work (nothing unusual about that, many people do it without running to the papers after all), looking pretty, court celebrity and then complain about the media attention that she obviously basked in. Its not as if she invented anything useful or wrote a good book.

The cult has always puzzled me, first of all there was the quite bizarre public outpouring grief by people she never even knew or met. Then people that I thought were quite rational were going into London to sign the condolance book and every week the papers are full of rubbish about her, especially that conspiracy theory nonsense. Lets face getting in the car with a a pissed driver just isn't a good idea.

I once attended an event where the Duchess of York made a speech and she came accross as an intelligent and informed young woman, yet she is denigrated while Diana is worshipped.

Who said life was fair

I can't get my head around it either.

However, I'm not so sure the driver was in fact pissed, as video footage showed him crouching down perfectly steadily to tie his shoelace before getting in the car. Now I don't know about you, but if I'd have drunk as much as he's alleged to have drunk I would most definitely have toppled over whilst trying to attempt that!

I've always liked Fergie, she knows how to party and she has more front than Blackpool.

Nope me neither ..I couldn't believe the weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth at the time ..I was in Paris three days after she was killed and went through the tunnel in a cab, I can totally imagine something going very wrong in there..especially if you were even just a little out of it or tired or whatever. they drive at great speed there..

hearing about it all over again as I listened to the radio in the early hours of this morning and i could have screamed. 10 years on and theya re still going on about her. 10 years on and she is still in the media, press and telly. 10 years on and we still get the conspiracy theories, the speculations, all harping on about it all.

A friend of mine was in hospital for a long while, who said that Diana came round followed by a trail of pressmen and cameras whereas when Fergie turned up or Princess Anne there was not a camera to be seen, it was so low key, in fact she didn't even realise she had spoken to Princess Anne at all!! Just goes to show how much Diana courted the press and the media attention.

Drives me insane all of this!!

Well you know how I feel about her - much like you do but with more swearing!

I bet you will not be able to move this weekend for crap about her and her "special place in the nations hearts"

Grrrrrrrrrrr!

It's even worse than those Elvis freaks a couple of weeks ago. At least the Elvis freaks have had another twenty years to get used to people laughing at them.

Try that with anyone "remembering" Diana and I doubt if you'd be the most popular person in the room.

Are you sure you don't want to blame the Internet? I hear blaming the Internet is very popular.

I dated a lady who looked exactly like Diana for six months. I was really proud to be seen with her. Then she had some kind of new surgery, regained her sight completely, and that was the end of that.

Over on this side of the pond, people lap it up about Diana and every other damn celebrity - dead or alive. Think - Elvis.

have a great weekend.

here in india,it is the fashion to be remembering diana. i too was shocked at the manner of her death. but so many people die every day sometimes senselessly. nobody cries over marie curie, newton, fleming - penicillin,pasteur- smallpox. these should be remembered as they contributed to humanity. people are sheep. strange sheep. here in india a lot of women cry at funerals. remembering their personal losses. conspiracy - everyone likes conspiracies especially against the establishment. my personal opinion - she failed the british nation. she was a public figure and more importantly a representative of the country. there is such a thing as public duty.

To summarise what I put on my own blog about this, it was all timing and sentiment.

Timing – because it was on a Sunday morning and everyone was there to share in a collective experience.

Sentiment – there was nothing to report so the media pumped us full of sentiment.

People were desperate for a moment of national unity and others want to feel like victims. Put the whole thing together and voila!

I don't get it either, it all seems so unnecessary.
